Homeschool Day @ the Museum -1908 Schoolhouse
Join us for an unforgettable day of discovery, unique in all of Niagara. Authentically restored to capture the charm of a one-room country school, your class will experience a hands-on early 19th-century school day at S.S. #4. Led by an experienced costumed instructor, children role-play a 1908 school day. Classes can be adapted to accommodate any accessibility needs.
A full-day "Strict but Nice" program typically includes the following:
An interactive introduction to early-settler life, including Indigenous history.
Improvisational and interactive role-playing activities, including:
-Roll Call
-Hygiene inspection & posture drills
-Historical memory exercise
-Arithmetic exercises on slates
- Lunchtime games, wooden toys, stilts, and tug-of-war
-Manual dexterity pen and ink lesson
-Spelling bee
This program pairs well with the Grade 3 curriculum, but we’ve had students of all ages enjoy this immersive experience.
*All children registered must be old enough to go to the washroom on their own and write their name.
All participants must bring their own litter-less lunch and snacks.
