Homeschool Day @ the Museum - Hand Building with Clay
Step into the world of hands-on history with our Museum Makers program, designed especially for homeschool students.
This immersive workshop introduces learners to local Indigenous history and traditions through the art of pottery. Students will discover how clay was shaped and used by Indigenous communities in the Niagara region, while gaining an appreciation for the cultural significance of these objects.
Guided by a museum instructor, participants will:
- Explore the history of local Indigenous communities and their traditions.
- Examine pottery forms, patterns, and uses from the past.
- Create TWO clay pieces inspired by traditional making practices to take home.
- Learn how museums care for and interpret artifacts.
This program blends history, creativity, and hands-on learning, making it an engaging way for homeschool students to connect with Indigenous heritage and practice the skills of a “museum maker.”
*All children registered must be old enough to go to the washroom on their own and write their name.
All participants must bring their own litter-less lunch and snacks.
