Homeschool @ the Museum: Hike & Clay Program
A Day of Clay and Culture at the Lincoln Museum and Cultural Centre!
Join us for a full day of hands-on discovery designed especially for homeschool students. Through creative activities, artifact exploration, and outdoor learning, students will connect with the history, stories, and landscapes of the Niagara region.
Students will explore the Twenty Valley Trail and Sho’arishon Park: a Neutral Nation legacy site, discovering the natural and cultural history of the land around the museum. Through interactive activities and guided discussion, learners will explore the geological forces that shaped Niagara, the importance of waterways, and the enduring connections Indigenous peoples have with this land.
The day will also include hand building with clay, where students will explore the history and traditions of pottery. Participants will examine real museum artifacts, learn about local Indigenous history, and create two clay pieces inspired by traditional making practices to take home.
Throughout the day, students will:
- Learn about local Indigenous history, traditions, and relationships with the land.
- Explore how pottery and other objects tell stories about people and places.
- Handle real museum artifacts.
- Discover Niagara’s geological history and natural environment.
- Visit Sho’arishon Park and learn about its significance as a Neutral Nation legacy site.
- Create their own clay pieces inspired by historical making practices.
- Participate in hands-on activities that connect art, science, history, and the land.
This program blends creativity, outdoor exploration, and meaningful learning, offering homeschool students a unique opportunity to become museum makers, historians, and land explorers for the day.
Participants should dress for the weather, as part of the program takes place outdoors.
All participants must bring their own litter-less lunch and snacks.
