STEAM Saturday - Seed Cannons

Get ready to dig in and make a difference! In this hands-on STEAM Saturday, kids will explore the science of seeds, soil, and ecosystems while creating their own wildflower seed bombs using clay, compost, and native seeds.

Inspired by the ancient Japanese practice of Tsuchi Dango (“earth dumpling”), participants will learn how seed bombs have been used around the world—and how they’re still used today by guerrilla gardeners to bring life and colour to forgotten spaces.

Kids will:
• Mix and roll their own seed bombs using native wildflower seeds
• Learn how plants grow and why native species matter
• Build a seed bomb launcher and explore the science of energy and motion
• Discover how small actions can help support pollinators and local ecosystems

Participants will leave with their own seed bombs (and launcher!) ready to plant—and the knowledge to help their communities bloom.
