STEAM Saturday - Solar Ovens

STEAM Saturday – Solar Pizza Ovens: Harness the Power of the Sun

Can you cook using only sunlight? In this hands-on STEAM Saturday, kids will explore the power of solar energy by designing and building their own mini solar pizza ovens.

Participants will learn how the sun’s energy can be captured, reflected, and trapped to create heat—discovering key scientific concepts like insulation, reflection, and heat transfer along the way. Then, they’ll put their designs to the test as they use their ovens to warm up a tasty treat!

Through experimentation and creative problem-solving, campers will:
• Explore how solar energy works and why it’s an important renewable resource
• Design and build a functioning solar oven
• Test and refine their designs using real-world science principles
• Learn how sustainable technology can be used in everyday life
